At Tupton Primary we follow the National Curriculum by using the Cornerstones and Hamilton Curriculum.

We use Charanga to support music teaching and Purple Mash for computing.

There is one Imaginative Learning Project (ILP) for each term, giving children a broad, balanced and exciting curriculum. Each topic starts with a Big Bang which could be a challenge day, a visitor into school or a visit to somewhere connected with the topic. For example Y5 had a planetarium come to school for their Stargazers topic and Y4 went to Castleton and spent the day finding out what life was like for the Romans as part of their Traders and Raiders topic.

We follow the National Curriculum for English and maths, using Talk for Writing and Maths No Problem as the starting point for our learning.

If you would like any additional information about your child’s topics for this year, please contact their class teacher.

Curriculum Overview - follow this link for a more in depth look at the curriculum for each year group.

We follow the Derbyshire Agreed Syllabus for RE, which is taught through the Discovery RE scheme.

For more information about the topics covered in our RE lessons click here:

PSHE is taught using the Jigsaw scheme. For more information click here:

Through our curriculum, including RE and PSHE, we promote British Values that are important for life in modern Britain.

Reading and Phonics Schemes

For children who are learning to read we use books from Collins Big Cat Phonics for Letters and Sounds. These books are carefully matched to the sounds children have learnt, meaning that they can confidently read the books they bring home.

Phonics teaching follows the Letters and Sounds scheme.
